Welcome to the Witenagemot

This blog is for the noise cd-r noise label Witenagemot. Releases are posted either in mp3 format or made available to purchase on CD-R format with handmade artwork. This way the product can never be controlled. We encourage dissemination of these works. We encourage offerings and tribute in knowledge.

We are in debt to the English Noise tradition, see SPK, see Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire, Zoviet:France, Muslimgauze, Nurse With Wound et al as well as the academic Classical approach by those such as Morton Subotnick, Pauline Oliveros, John Cage, Steve Reich, Edgar Varese, Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry et al.

Electronic Noise, in our opinion, does not always have to be laden with negative, dark and unpleasant connotations. We accept these colours and moods as an aesthetic principle for many within the noise scene and recognise that they form a distinct part of the heritage of noise/harsh experimental music and are vital to its identity. However, we believe that the genre can expand into other emotional realms beyond the opposiing poles of, if you will, 'black' (traditionalists) noise and the 'white' noise (that coma-inducing element that proposes the music be used for 'relaxation').
This blog represents, to some extent, our attempts to develop this depth. Within you will find harsh noise that, in keeping with the progenitors, has this dark style but there will be a general mood of exploration in directions other than this. Black noise is merely the setting off point.

We are just beginning to publish our works and each, as individuals and collaborative projects, have their own vast archive that is being edited, selected, salvaged and presented here.

The Witans who currently constitute the Witenagemot and will be releasing works via this blog are as follows:

Pachubatinath
Patub-Zinteth
Bretwalda
Aegis of Rome
Dry Block Trio

The First mp3 Release to be published here will be Pachubatinath's "Stratagem Snake III".
